Out of the £200million transfer war chest that Todd Boehly made available to manager Thomas Tuchel at the start of the summer transfer window, just less than half of it has been spent so far on two acquisitions.
Both Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly have already made their impacts in different ways based off the latest pre-season encounter against Udinese on Friday night. Despite Tuchel being happy with both, it's clear that more is required as demonstrated by his 'urgent' appeal message in relation to 'quality' signings.
"He is a very, very good signing. A strong personality, a strong player. I am happy that he could play 70 minutes now. He’s getting fitter and fitter which is very important for us for the start of the season," Tuchel said on Koulibaly. He then added on Sterling: "He had chances, very heavily involved in other chances, it was a good performance."

Whilst work is clearly ongoing on the outgoings side of things with both Michy Batshuayi and Billy Gilmour touted to go to Everton before the September 1 deadline, new owner Boehly needs to also ramp up things on the incomings side of things to satisfy the German.
To do this, the Italian media are reporting that a £51million transfer swoop could soon be on the cards as Chelsea and Inter Milan are locked into negotiations for two certain players.
Both talks are at different stages. The more advanced of the pair seems to be young midfielder Cesare Casadei who is a Serie A wonderkid. He's been training with the Inter first team in pre-season and while developing under Simone Inzaghi, Chelsea have been trying to poach the 19-year-old.
Their first offer which hit the £7million mark was reportedly turned down. It is understood that they want more than double that at £17million before they allow the player to leave.
Meanwhile, while no official talks have opened just yet over a move for Dumfries, Inter worry that these Casadei negotiations could lead to the Dutch international also being brought into the question as Boehly aims for an ambitious £51million swoop for the wing-back and central midfielder.
With Gilmour likely to leave at least on loan, Casadei could be his youthful replacement who would play most of his football in the academy set-up for 2022/23 but could be fed a few first team games over the season if he is to star in the Cobham set-up.
Meanwhile, for Dumfries, he could be used as Reece James cover or could play in the right-wing-back position if Tuchel decides to move the Three Lions International into the right-centre-back role.
