Denzel Dumfries, Pau Torres - Five stars tipped to sign for Chelsea before transfer window shuts

Chelsea have already had a relatively slow start to the summer transfer window, signing just two first-team players despite the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Romelu Lukaku all heading out the door.

Thomas Tuchel's side get their 2022/23 Premier League campaign underway this weekend, when they travel to Goodison Park to take on Frank Lampard's Everton, with English attacker Raheem Sterling and Senegalese centre-half Kalidou Koulibaly the only two fresh faces that will be donning the Chelsea shirt in their league opener. However, additional incomings are expected at Stamford Bridge before next month's transfer deadline as Tuchel looks to bridge the gap between Liverpool and Manchester City.

With that being said, football.london has taken a look at the players the Blues are tipped to sign according to bookies Sky Bet.

Denzel Dumfries (4/9)

Chelsea are heavy favourites to sign Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries, who established himself as one of Serie A's most exciting wingbacks during the course of the 2021/22 campaign. Transfer guru David Ornstein reported over the weekend that the Blues are currently working on a deal to bring Dumfries to west London, something that may potentially hint at Reece James operating as a right centre-back more frequently this season given the Dutchman is an out-and-out wingback.

Manchester United icon Gary Neville has previously delivered a worrying working about the 26-year-old's defensive abilities. “He’s not a defender, at all," Neville said, while on punditry duty for Sky Sports back in 2019 during a game between the Netherlands and Wales.

“From the first minute, everything has looked off.”

Pau Torres (3/1)

The Blues want to bring in at least one more central defender this summer, football.london understands and one player who has been linked with a move is Villarreal star Pau Torres. Torres is one of the best ball-playing centre-backs in Europe, averaging 4.39 progressive passes and 4.71 progressive carries per 90 minutes last season, as per fbref.

Nathan Ake (11/2)

Chelsea had heavily pursed Manchester City defender Nathan Ake earlier this summer this summer. football.london reported last month that the Blues were in advanced talks to re-sign Ake, although the Citizens excessive asking price was thought to be a stumbling block.

Eventually, a move broke down and The Athletic reported that the former Bournemouth man will be part of Pep Guardiola's plans for the 2022/23 season. Still, the bookies appear to have not completely ruled out the west Londoners reigniting their interest in the Dutch international.

Serge Gnabry (5/1)

Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry had been mooted as a potential target for both Arsenal and Chelsea during the summer transfer window. However, the prolific German has since penned a new long-term contract at the Allianz Arena, making any move increasingly unlikely.

Declan Rice (8/1)

West Ham United ace Declan Rice seems to always be mentioned with a return to his boyhood club Chelsea. The Englishman has established himself as one of the Premier League's most consistent box-to-box midfielders in recent seasons and the Blues are certainly in need of midfield reinforcements considering both Jorginho and N'Golo Kante are into the final 12 months of their respective contracts at Stamford Bridge.
