Denzel Dumfries makes Everton transfer admission and Inter Milan claim

Denzel Dumfries has revealed why he did not move to Everton during the summer transfer window.

The Blues are understood to have explored the possibility of signing the right-back, but he opted to join Inter Milan from PSV Eindhoven.

The 25-year-old performed well for the Netherlands during their spell at Euro 2020 across the summer, and caught the attention of a number of clubs as a result.

But the defender eventually chose to join Inter, who signed him to replace Achraf Hakimi who had joined PSG earlier in the window in a €70m deal.

And now speaking on the transfer, Dumfries admits that despite receiving an apparent offer from Everton, he didn’t think twice about joining the Italian giants once he learnt of their interest.

He told Voetbal International : “It took some time to close the deal, but when it happened, I had goosebumps.

“I was talking to [my agent Mino] Raiola every day, I strongly wanted to join Inter. I had an offer from Everton, but I didn’t think twice about coming here.

“They have a great tradition in Italy and Europe and they are the champions of Italy. The city of Milan also had an impact on my choice.

“[In November] I played the first derby of Milan in my career and it was incredible. The stadium was full.

"These are things you dream about when you are a footballer.

“Now, due to COVID restrictions, stadiums are not always full, but I am looking forward to playing in sold-out stadiums. It’s so bad to play behind closed doors.”
