Fair play to William for not hiding behind the Palace suits and answering a reporter’s legitimate question.
And kudos to him for defending his family against unproven allegations.
It was brave, not only because it ripped up etiquette but because it has left him wide open to follow-up questions about his very much “non-racist” family.
Such as... didn’t it build its global power through colonising black and Asian people? Don’t his family still sit on huge amounts of wealth made from slavery?
Why do you so rarely see people of ethnic minorities in senior positions at the royal palaces?

Why did the Queen Mother refuse to call “Rhodesia” Zimbabwe?
Why has his grandad come out with more racist one-liners than Bernard Manning?
Why did the Queen’s uncle fraternise so enthusiastically with the Nazis?
And why has the Queen failed to apologise for historic examples of racism carried out in the name of the Crown?
William didn’t pick this row, and because his brother refuses to name the alleged royal racist, may feel he has a right to clear his name.
The problem is that denying your entire family is free from racism is a big ask for most of us. For him, it’s huge.
