Denver Broncos star Von Miller tests positive for COVID-19

Denver Broncos star linebacker Von Miller has tested positive for COVID-19. The team released a statement Thursday acknowledging the former Super Bowl MVP had a case of the coronavirus.

He would be the second current NFL player to be fighting the disease. Brian Allen of the Los Angeles Rams came forward Wednesday with his diagnosis.

The team’s complete statement:

“After experiencing flu-like symptoms, Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller has tested positive for COVID-19. Von has elected to share his diagnosis publicly to emphasize that anyone can be afflicted with coronavirus.

“Von is doing well and recovering at home in self-isolation. He remains under the care of team doctors, who are following all coronavirus treatment procedures to ensure a safe environment for Von and our community.

“Von is the first member of the Broncos’ organization known to have tested positive for COVID-19.”

Miller, 31, played college football at Texas A&M, where he earned consensus All-American honors and was awarded the Butkus Award as the most outstanding college linebacker in the nation. He was chosen by the Broncos second overall in the 2011 NFL Draft. Considered among the best defenders in the league, he is an eight-time Pro Bowl selection, receiving first-team All-Pro honors as a rookie. At the conclusion of the 2015 NFL season, Miller was named Super Bowl MVP after the Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50.
