Denver Broncos star Von Miller tests positive for coronavirus after experiencing flu-like symptoms

NFL star and former Super Bowl MVP Von Miller has been diagnosed with coronavirus.

In a statement released via their official team website on Thursday, the Denver Broncos confirmed that the outside linebacker had tested positive for Covid-19 after experiencing "flu-like symptoms".

Miller is now recovering in self-isolation and follows Los Angeles Rams center Brian Allen as the second known active NFL player to have contracted coronavirus.

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton also confirmed last month that he had tested positive for the disease, while the outbreak has led to next week's NFL Draft moving from Las Vegas to an entirely virtual event.

"Von has elected to share his diagnosis publicly to emphasize that anyone can be afflicted with coronavirus," the Broncos' statement read.

"Von is doing well and recovering at home in self-isolation. He remains under the care of team doctors, who are following all coronavirus treatment procedures to ensure a safe environment for Von and our community.

"Von is the first member of the Broncos' organization known to have tested positive for COVID-19."

Miller - the second overall draft pick by the Broncos out of Texas A&M in 2011 - has been one of the premier pass rushers in the NFL for many years, earning eight Pro Bowl call-ups as well as three All-Pro selections.

He was memorably named as the most valuable player when Denver beat the Carolina Panthers 24-10 in Super Bowl 50 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California in February 2016.
