Denver Broncos announce 53-man roster for 2019

After making more than three dozen transactions over the last week, the Denver Broncos submitted a 53-man roster to the NFL on Saturday afternoon. There are a handful of surprises.

Denver cut quarterbacks Kevin Hogan and Brett Rypien, leaving Joe Flacco and Drew Lock as the only QBs currently on the roster. Lock is currently sidelined with a thumb injury so the Broncos will either trade for or sign/claim another QB this weekend.

Running back Khalfani Muhammad and fullback George Aston were also cut. Denver will try to get those two backs and Rypien on the 10-man practice squad. The Broncos can begin signing practice squad players on Sunday morning.

On defense, safety Su’a Cravens and safety-turned-linebacker Jamal Carter were both cut. Denver will likely try to add Carter to the practice squad.

Here is a look at the Broncos’ initial 52-man roster:

It should be noted that this roster is subject to change this weekend and throughout the season. Up next for Denver is a building a practice squad and then preparing to face the Oakland Raiders on ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” in Week 1 on Sept. 9.
