Dentist set up camera in toilet to film patients and staff for sexual gratification

A dentist has been suspended after setting up a 'spy camera' to watch patients and staff on the toilet.

Dennis Li Tai Leong was caught out by the dental practice manager who spotted it in the bathroom, a disciplinary panel heard.

When the footage was reviewed, the 45 year old was seen adjusting the camera so it would point at and film the lavatory.

He was then arrested and later convicted for 'installing equipment' to gain 'sexual gratification'.

The General Dental Council has now decided to continue his suspension to 'protect the public'.

Corners were raised after the 'spy camera' was found in the bathroom used by both staff and patients.

The matter was reported to police and the former director of DHC D3NTAL LTD, based in London, was arrested before he was suspended from the NHS Dental Performers List.

In July this year, he was brought before North and East Hertfordshire Magistrates' Court where he pleaded guilty.

Li Tai Leong was then convicted for installing equipment with the intention of enabling himself, for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification to observe another person doing a private act.

In September, he was sentenced to a 12 week custodial sentence suspended for 18 months.

After being suspended from the dental register in March 2019 for 18 months, the order has now been continued for a further year.

The panel concluded: "Mr Li Tai Leong’s conviction on 13 July 2021 for the offence giving rise to this order underlines the ongoing necessity and appropriateness of the order."

The matter will be reviewed again in six months time where the order may be 'revoked, varied or replaced'.
