Dentist says we've all been using too much toothpaste as she hits out at TV adverts

A dentist has debunked exaggerated toothpaste ads and demonstrated the correct amount we should be using each day for optimal dental hygiene.

Dr. K. Sarvendran is a dentist who runs her own private dental clinic in Toronto, Canada, and has been sharing various tips and informational content related to mouth hygiene and health on her popular TikTok page.

She recently revealed the exact amount of toothpaste needed for an adult to efficiently brush their teeth - and it might save you a bit of money.

The dentist went on to express her disapproval for toothpaste ads and the amount of toothpaste they use, as she claimed the amount illustrated in the media is completely exaggerated.

In her TikTok video she demonstrated how to properly measure the paste as she was heard saying: "This is how much toothpaste they show you in the commercials - not necessary at all", as she covered the brush in a thick layer.

"All you need is a nice pea-sized amount, that's enough.”

The dentist was then seen squeezing a small amount of the product on her toothbrush, showing a significant difference between her dosage and the one people are used to seeing in ads on TV.

Many viewers took over the comment section to express their shock, admitting they didn't know how significantly smaller the right amount of toothpaste was from their regular use.

One person wrote: “I’ve been using waaay too much then" while other thanked her for sharing the clip.

Dr. K. Sarvendran shared another TikTok on the topic instructing the right amount of toothpaste to use for both children under three years of age and anyone older.
