Dentist claims they can tell if you're pregnant just by looking at your mouth

For many people, going to be dentist can be a truly nerve-wracking experience, especially if you're prone to having problems with your teeth.

But, it turns out that a simple trip to see the dentist could reveal a lot more about you than you think. More specifically, if you're a woman or someone with a uterus, it could give away whether you've got a bun in the oven.

Yep, your dentist could actually be able to tell if you're expecting a baby, purely by looking in your mouth, according to fourth year dental student Dr Sukhmani.

Speaking on TikTok, she explained: "Your dentist may be able to tell that you are pregnant."

While nausea, tiredness, frequent urinating and sore breasts are all well known symptoms of early pregnancy, as well as missing your period, there's one tell-tale sign which could give away the fact you're expecting, and it's in your mouth.

"This is not only due to the nausea and the enamel erosion, but this is due to pregnancy gingivitis which is seen in 30 to 50 percent of pregnant patients," Dr Sukhmani continued.

"Gums become more inflamed, tender and prone to bleeding."

In another clip, Dr Sukhmani went on to say that there are a number of other things a dentist can tell about you, just by looking in your mouth, including if you have a sinus infection.

She explained that patients often think they need a root canal, when in actual fact it turns out they have a sinus infection, as the pain is in a similar place and can be confused.

A tell-tale way to tell if the difference is to bend over and see if the pain increases. If it does, then it's more than likely your sinuses and you need to see a doctor instead of a dentist. Genius.
