Residents of the twin cities woke up on Tuesday morning in a dense fog and chilly weather. The fog disrupted movement of traffic especially on Noida-Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressways.
Messages of low visibility warning flashed on display boards along the Yamuna Expressway till late afternoon.
The minimum temperature on Tuesday was recorded 7 degree Celsius. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 20 deg Celsius, with a partly cloudy sky, said the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). On Monday, the minimum temperature was recorded 9 deg Celsius and the maximum was 21 degree Celsius.
“There will be no respite from cold in coming days and minimum temperature is likely to go down further to 6 deg Celsius on Thursday. Fog is likely to descend in the city during late night hours when the minimum temperature is being recorded,” said an IMD official.
On Monday morning, during the peak hours, the traffic was dead slow as the visibility had gone down to zero meters.
“As I left home, I found very low visibility right in front of my apartment. On the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, the visibility was almost zero at certain points. No police vehicles were on the Eway to guide the commuters. The motorists were driving at a speed of 30-40 kmph with their parking lights and emergency lights on,” said Amit Saxena, an MNC worker and resident of Beta 2 area of Greater Noida.
The low visibility also slowed down the traffic at the DND Flyway and many daily commuters reached office late due to dense fog.
“It was not usual traffic at the DND. Right on the middle of the road, above the river Yamuna, the visibility was almost zero. We had to drive really slow to cross the DND,” said Amit Sharma, a resident of Delhi who works in Noida.
