Dennistoun community club to deliver Christmas dinners to isolated elderly people over festive season

A community club in Glasgow's east end will deliver Christmas dinner to elderly people who will be alone on Christmas Day.

Bluevale community club in Dennistoun have arranged the Christmas Dinner Delivery service and are calling out for people to refer anyone they think may need the service - be it a family member or a neighbour.

The Christmas dinner service will be provided for elderly or vulnerable residents in the area who may be isolated from friends and family or financially impacted by coronavirus this year.

Amanda Watson from the Community Club said: "Our plan would be to offer a Christmas dinner delivery service. Our cook has a level 2 food hygiene certificate and all meals will be delivered in small plastic containers that will be suitable for reheating.

"All dishes will be sanitised before delivery and placed in a bag. A small gift will be given alongside a handmade Christmas card from local primary schools."

Teleperformance UK are donating shortbread for each individual and Haghill Park Primary and St Denis Primary are working on handmade Christmas cards.

Folks at the club are also running a toy appeal for struggling families. If you have any toys that are in good condition that are no longer used, the club want to hear from you.

Club bosses said: "We want to close the gap on social isolation and provide a safe and social space for our elderly."

Bluevale Community club, formerly Bluevale boxing club, will officially open its doors in January where it hopes to run free classes and workshops for the community.
