Dennis Young: Jamal Adams meets with Christopher Johnson, still won't talk to Adam Gase or Joe Douglas

NEW YORK _ The Jets shopped every remotely tradeable player not named Sam Darnold at the trade deadline. You know it, I know it, Le'Veon Bell knows it and is fine with it.

Star safety Jamal Adams knows it and is furious that he was almost traded to the Cowboys.

On Friday, he told reporters that he talked to owner Christopher Johnson, but still can't face coach Adam Gase or GM Joe Douglas.

"Me and Mr. Johnson are really close, I have a lot of respect for him. I was very comfortable because he understands me, not Jamal Adams as a football player, but Jamal Adams as a person," Jamal Adams the football player and person said Friday. "He's very genuine and authentic and I've always had mutual respect for him. That was a guy I was comfortable with talking to, and it went well."

It seems like calling Johnson "a guy I was comfortable talking to" is a pointed omission. A reporter asked the obvious follow-up question: Do you feel like Adam Gase and Joe Douglas care about you as a person?

Adams rejected the question as ridiculous, but also confirmed its premise.

"See, there we go. Do not, do not, do not write that story, man. Do not. That's not it. That's not what I said," Adams said. "That's who I was comfortable talking with at the time. I'm just not comfortable to speak on what happened with those two guys. I will eventually. I will."

Adams laid out what is acceptable for reporters to write: "Apparently I'm in my feelings, that's what I see a lot. You can say that."
