Dennis Taylor World Snooker Championship win to be shown on TV

The raised cue and cheeky finger wagging.

Everyone remembers Dennis Taylor's celebrations after beating Steve Davis to win the World Snooker Championship.

It was an epic black-ball, final frame scrap between two warriors of the green baize.

And fans will get to relive it all this weekend.

The sporting showdown will be shown on BBC Two and BBC Sport website this Sunday, May 3.

The screening of the match is part of BBC Sport's 'Crucible Classics' series which are being screened during the dates originally scheduled for this year's World Championship.

Northern Ireland sports hero Taylor had to fight his way back from 8-0 down to claim his only world title in a match that was watched by a peak live television audience of 18.5m.

The programme will air at 2pm. It can also be viewed later in the day via the BBC's red button service.

"I think we both realised we were part of something special and to win it the way I did it was like winning four world titles all wrapped up in one," Taylor told 'Davis v Taylor: The '85 Black Ball Final'.

"My first thought was, 'I'm world champion - after all these years of trying I'm world champion'. It was a very special feeling.

"After 17 days of playing it came down to one ball at the end. You've messed up and you can't do any more about it," said six-time champion Davis, who had been defending his title.

This year's tournament has been rearranged to commence on July 31 in Sheffield.
