Oklahoma City Thunder guard Dennis Schroder is one of a record 54 players in this year’s FIBA World Cup, and he and Germany started the group phase Sunday.
Germany lost 78-74 against France in its first game of the FIBA World Cup. Schroder scored 23 points and shot 36.8% from the field. Schroder also tallied a team-high eight assists.
The Germans didn’t have any players score in double figures outside of Schroder and center Johannes Voigtmann, who plays for CSKA Moscow in the EuroLeague. Voigtmann scored a team-high 25 points, and he shot 8-of-10 from the floor.
Along with Schroder, Boston Celtics big man Daniel Theis and Dallas Mavericks forward Maximilian Kleber are also playing for Germany.
Schroder isn’t the only Thunder player in the FIBA World Cup, as Danilo Gallinari is playing for Italy. Gallinari helped lead Italy to a 108-62 win over the Philippines on Saturday, scoring 16 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the three-point line.
Schroder and Germany will take on the Dominican Republic on Tuesday at 4:30 a.m. ET.
