Dennis Praet opens door on Arsenal transfer after two failed previous bids

Former Arsenal transfer target Dennis Praet could have opened the door on a move to the Emirates Stadium two years after seeing a potential switch fail.

The Belgian midfielder has twice been linked with Arsenal as a possible addition to the Gunners squad under Arsene Wenger and Unai Emery.

Most recently, the former Sampdoria man was linked with a switch to the Emirates Stadium in 2019 but Leicester managed to secure his signature.

Before then, the Belgian was also offered a tour of the Gunners’ training ground as a 15-year-old prospect but Arsenal were once again beaten to the punch with Praet electing to join Anderlecht in his home country.

Now, The Athletic suggest that the 27-year-old has become frustrated with his opportunities at the King Power Stadium having fallen down the pecking order under Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers.

He is apparently set to look at his options after Euro 2020, with the Foxes potentially open to a sale should they be offered close to the reported £18m fee that they paid to Serie A outfit Sampdoria two seasons ago.

football.london understands that Mikel Arteta is on the search for a creative midfielder this window and Praet could potentially be a perfect candidate, especially after the Gunners’ previous attempts to bring him to the club.

The 12-cap international has made 60 appearances for Leicester in his time at the King Power Stadium and still has three years left to run on his current deal.

Following a lack of opportunities with the Foxes, Praet admitted to feeling frustrated.

Speaking in May, he said: “It is of course not easy to fight back into a team that is doing quite well. In the past few weeks I didn’t get much playing time.

“Of course, that’s always a shame and painful for a football player, because you just want to play.”
