Dennis Morgan once owned this strikingly beautiful Mediterranean Revival home, designed by Paul R. Williams – it's listed for $8.5 million

California real estate is wide-ranging in its architectural style, from Mediterranean Revival properties to modern, minimalist luxury homes. When it comes to the former, however, we are always intrigued by restored properties that retain their heritage.

One that has just hit the market is a stunning, Paul R. Williams-designed home in La Cañada Flintridge, which once belonged to Hollywood actor Dennis Morgan.

Built in 1927 and now selling for $8,500,000, the property spans over five acres and features period elements like a cast-cement fireplace, stenciled ceilings, and arched French doors. These are some of the touches that made Paul, a renowned architect for the Hollywood elite in the 1930s and the first Black member of the American Institute of Architects, so revered.

Its natural surroundings are what make it truly magnificent: there's a faux bois Tea House crafted by a Japanese artisan in 1929, restored Della Robbia ceramic mosaic, fountains, grotto, and lion statues, and both rose and cactus gardens. With six bedrooms and nine bathrooms, it's a sprawling property with lots of personality. Let's take a closer look at this Mediterranean-style home.

The entryway is as grand as it is refined, with checked, black-and-white floors, a giant, black potted plant, and gentle, curved wall arches. Details are worth spending time with here, from the intricate crown molding to the stained-glass ceiling (a great way to make the house feel lighter).

The sitting area mixes Mediterranean-style infrastructure with a Rich Ranch sensibility, from the wood beamed ceilings to the brass chandelier, to the mahogany, leather sofas and wood bar.

Moody yet elegant, the office features wood panelled walls, an antique desk and chair, and built-in bookcases.

The living area is lightened up with a cream sofa and coordinating walls, while light lamps pepper the space among wood side tables.

The dining room is suited for royalty, with a large, wood table flanked by vintage, red and wood upholstered chairs, while a candelabra-style chandelier contributes to the overall ambiance.

The Rich Ranch style once again makes an appearance in this lounge area, outfitted with upholstered sofas and ottomans, where wood-panelled windows allow light to trail in beautifully.

Meanwhile, another lounge area features a floral sofa, a stone fireplace, and dark orange accents via an ottoman and throw pillows, perfectly blending feminine prints and hard materials.

The Olympic-sized pool is a clear highlight, surrounded by lush greenery (that also acts as a privacy shield).

The exterior is just as visually interesting as the inside, with statues, potted plants, and botanics surrounding the property. The classic Spanish-revival style terracotta roofing and arches look all the more beautiful when protected by native plants.
