Dennis Hogan to defend world title on Katie Taylor undercard

Dennis Hogan will return home to Ireland and defend his IBO Super-Welterweight world title on May 20 at the 3Arena.

Katie Taylor's headline bout in Dublin is set to be a night to remember in Irish sport and Hogan's fight announcement is just another blockbuster bout added to the card.

Hogan will defend his title against James Metcalf with the fight being broadcast on DAZN.

The Kildare man is based in Newstead and May's bout will be the first time he has fought professionally in Ireland.

Hogan boats a 31-4-1 record and faces a stiff test when it comes to 24-1 Metcalf.

The Liverpool fighter beat Carl Pennington last December and has said a world title shot is a dream true.

He said: "I've always wanted to box in Ireland and never quite got the chance, so to be boxing on one of the biggest boxing events in Irish history for a World Title is a dream come true.

“Dennis Hogan is a really good fighter and a genuine world top 10 in my opinion – you only have to look at some of his previous opponents to see that. I believe he was robbed for the WBO World Title against Munguia".

And Hogan said of the fight announcement: "I'm excited to be returning to Ireland to defend my World Title against JJ Metcalf.

"This is a truly special moment for me, not only to be on the card with Katie Taylor who is an Irish superstar, but it will be the first time I will be fighting as a professional in Ireland. See you soon Dublin!".
