Dennis Hogan pays incredible tribute to grandfather ahead of world title fight

Dennis Hogan will be the underdog in tonight's massive fight against Jermall Charlo, but the Irishman will have one hardcore supporter with him in the right.

The Kildare native, who holds a record of 28-2-1, has unveiled a new tattoo on his torso which depicts his late grandfather Paddy Burke.

Speaking with The Sun ahead of the bout, which takes place in the Barclays Center in Brooklyn tonight, Hogan said: “After he passed away I always felt like . . . I know that he was my biggest fan.

“He was always there for my victories, in the amateurs, and also the losses, we would chat about it all the time and I knew that he loved it.

“Even when he was sick, I’d go back to Ireland from Australia and he’d be all about it.

“The last time he was sick when I went back to Ireland, and he was unconscious, the nurses were able to tell me about my career and how it had gone.

“At that point I was 2-0 with two knockouts and he’d be telling everyone because he just loved boxing.

“He was just a big part of me and my inspiration for boxing. He brought me to boxing and there was all of that."

Hogan v Charlo takes place in the early hours of this morning Irish time, and you can check out all the action on the Irish Mirror live blog.
