Dennis Bergkamp delivers verdict on Mikel Arteta and a new-look Arsenal philosophy

Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp has admitted he's 'really interested' in Mikel Arteta's start to life as the Gunners head coach.

Arteta has made positive stride since taking over in December and has enjoyed a fantastic week with victories over Liverpool and then Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final.

That gives the Spaniard the opportunity to pick up his first silverware as boss when he takes on Frank Lampard's Chelsea, who can achieve the same feat.

Arteta's attempts to change the culture and philosophy that had seen the club fall into mid-table under Unai Emery has been successful thus far, though he will need help in the transfer market to continue that progression, by his own admission.

With Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira also enjoying success in their latest coaching roles, Bergkamp has insisted he's very intrigued by Arteta's project at Arsenal.

"I follow how they’re doing from afar. It’s a shame that MLS stopped after Thierry took a job there, and Patrick is doing well at Nice," Bergkamp told FourFourTwo.

" I’m really interested in Mikel Arteta and how he’s doing at Arsenal, as there have been signs that he wants to change their philosophy.

"It looked good in the few matches I watched earlier in the year. But my future, who knows? In football, one day is not the same as the other."

The full version of the interview with Dennis Bergkamp appears in the new issue of FourFourTwo - on sale on Wednesday, July 22. Also in the magazine: Djibril Cisse answers your questions, Marvin Sordell and Liam Rosenior tackle racism and former Newcastle striker Nile Ranger talks prison, guns and gambling.
