The Euro 2020 game between Denmark vs Finland restarted after Christian Eriksen was taken to hospital following his collapse on the pitch in Copenhagen.
Medical staff performed CPR on the Inter Milan midfielder as his visibly-distressed Danish teammates formed a protective barrier to shield him from view.
Eriksen was eventually stretchered off the pitch and taken to hospital, with the Danish FA confirming that he was awake and had been stabilised.
Following a ‘crisis meeting’ between officials from Uefa and both clubs, the European football governing body released a statement confirming the match would restart at 7:30pm BST.
The Uefa statement said: “Following the request made by players of both teams, UEFA has agreed to restart the match between Denmark and Finland tonight at 20:30 CET (TBC). The last five minutes of the first half will be played, there will then be a 5-minute half-time break followed by the second half.
“UEFA wishes Christian Eriksen a full and speedy recovery and wishes to thank both teams for their exemplary attitude.”
The players were greeted to a huge round of applause from the fans as play resumed, though most thoughts were cleared elsewhere.
Uefa also confirmed that the day’s third match, between Belgium and Russia, would go ahead as planned at 8pm.
