Denise Welch thanks Durham hospital staff after dad's death and says she'll 'never forget' them

Denise Welch has thanked the caring staff at University Hospital of North Durham who looked after her dad Vin before his death, saying she'd 'never forget' them or what they did for him.

On Wednesday morning Denise announced, that after he'd undergone a series of major operations this year and battled pneumonia, her dad had passed away at the age of 84.

Posting a poignant photo of her hand resting on his, the Hollyoaks actress wrote: "The words I’ve dreaded saying all of my life.

"Last night at 11pm, we lost our dad, the life force that was Vin Welch. After making a miraculous recovery recently from major surgeries, pneumonia plus his existing pulmonary fibrosis was more than even he could take.

"He left us surrounded by his family who could not have loved anyone more."

Denise added that Vin fought right to the end, adding: "I've never seen anyone fight to stay longer at a party than dad and last night was no different."

And then the 63-year-old paid tribute to the nurses who'd cared for Vin in his final days and hours, singling some of them out by name.

She wrote: "The nurses in Ward 6 at Durham University hospital will forever be in our hearts as they gave dad the most peaceful passing anyone could wish for.

"They adored him and he them. Heather, Helen, Lauren, Naz, Chloe, Graham, Debs to name but a few. We will NEVER forget you."

Earlier this year Denise paid tribute to her dad's fighting spirit on both Loose Women and her Instagram .

Updating her followers on his condition, she wrote:: "10 weeks in hospital, 3 major operations at 84!! But here’s proof his dancing days are not yet over
