Denise Welch slams Strictly 'wrong call' on Loose Women and sides with Shirley Ballas in vote row

Denise Welch has hit out at last weekend's Strictly Come Dancing result after her Loose Women colleague Kaye Adams went sent packing from the ballroom.

Kaye lived up to bookies' predictions that she'd be at risk of an early exit from the BBC show, when she and pro partner Kai Widdrington landed in the bottom two alongside Matt Goss and Nadiya Bychkova. After both couples reprised their routines from Saturday night's live show, it was Kaye and Kai who were given their marching orders, with the Strictly result sealed by Craig Revel-Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Bake all opting to save Matt and Nadiya.

The outcome was forgone conclusion by the time Strictly host Tess Daly asked Shirley Ballas for her verdict and the head judge said she disagreed with her co-stars, saying: "I thought due to a little bit better quality I would have saved Kaye and Kai."

Plenty of viewers agreed with Shirley and so did Denise. Taking to Twitter in the aftermath of the results show going out on Sunday night, she wrote: "I’m sorry. @kayeadams made some mistakes in that dance off but she was better than Matt on the night!!!!!! Thank you @ShirleyBallas."

Following her Strictly exit, Kaye was back to host Loose Women on Tuesday and, clearly not in the mood to let it go, Denise once again questioned the result from the weekend, telling Kaye: "Obviously, I am a bit biased, but I think it was the wrong call, personally. I think your energy was electric..." as Kaye joked that Denise was 'turning into Shirley Ballas.'

Denise added: "You could tell you had much more to give and you are a journalist - it is so far out of your comfort zone, you're not a performer." Dignified in defeat, Kaye replied: "Hands up, I blew it in the dance off and I own that."
