Denise Welch's Hollyoaks 'toy boy' revealed as character makes shock entrance

The identity of Denise Welch's Hollyoaks 'toy boy' has been revealed as her character makes a shock entrance to the Channel 4 soap.

It was announced in October that the Geordie actress had joined the programme which turned 25 last year, as Trish, the mum of popular character Maxine Minniver.

Speaking about filming her first scenes in a discussion on Loose Women a few months ago, former Coronation Street star Denise let slip that she did have a much younger on-screen love interest.

The 62-year-old said: "Here's me being 62 thinking 'oh they'll find someone who was in Dad's Army who's about 120 for me' but no, I've got someone very, very easy on the eye."

Denise then explained that she can't get too close to her new TV lover because of COVID-19 restrictions, telling her fellow panellists: "COVID filming restrictions are so frustrating!

"My character is meant to be a bit of a goer... but I like that they're writing for a woman my age who is still quite active in that department even though he's a bit of a bad boy!"

Denise Welch reveals she has a 'hunky lover' as she joins Hollyoaks cast

This Morning viewers got a first look at Denise in action on Hollyoaks on Tuesday as resident soap expert Sharon Marshall showed hosts Phillip Schofield and Rochelle Humes a new trailer with her in.

Denise's character could be seen bursting into shot shouting the words: "No-one ignores a booty call from me, especially my fella!" much to the shock of on-screen daughter Maxine, played by another former Coronation Street actress, Nikki Sanderson.

Sharon joked: "Wonder why Denise said yes to that?! Look at her toy boy!" to which Phillip replied: "I love her when she's in full flight!"

Tweeting the trailer, Denise wrote: "Yes!!!! The new @ Hollyoaks trailer!! I’m so proud and excited to be a part of this amazing show!! Hope you enjoy Trish!! And welcome Tom Benedict Knight who plays Brad, my fella"

Denise's Hollyoaks debut comes as she's been back on screen in Coronation Street as Kevin Webster's other woman Natalie Horrocks.

Their scandalous 1997 affair has been the subject of classic episodes of Corrie that have been airing over the past week on ITV3.
