Denise Welch blasts government after being barred from travelling with her elderly dad

Denise Welch has taken to social media to call out the government's “hypocrisy” around coronavirus rules.

The outspoken 63-year old was furious that she was banned from sitting in the same vehicle as her elderly dad after he’d a spell in hospital.

Addressing her fans on Instagram, she said: “I wasn’t allowed to travel in an ambulance with my 84yr old frightened dad. Why?? There is no reason.

"I’ve tried to call out this hypocrisy for over a year,” she continued. "I came off Twitter as I was called a covid denier. Nothing could be further from the truth. But I knew this would happen.”

Denise quit the website for 10 days in March after criticisms of her vocal opposition to social distancing. At the time, she said “It’s become a toxic place and so I’m no longer going to be a part of it.”

In her post, accompanied by a photo of a mass gathering of football fans, she continued: "I saw the utter hypocrisy when the govt allowed the clap for carers to become a weekly carnival with emergency services lining the streets with their sirens blaring.

"Karaoke and wine parties, nurses gathering outside hugging. Bridges full of people clapping," she added.

"Meanwhile, two men were threatened with arrest as they tried to comfort their mother sat alone at her husband’s funeral."

There has been widespread criticism of the huge crowds that descended on the capital on Friday for the England versus Scotland game.

The Euro 2020 tournament is under further attack for its proposal to allow VIPs to travel to London for the final without having to submit to the same quarantine rules that affect the rest of the population who chose to go abroad.

Denise continued: “I’ve had my 2 vaccinations and I will make my own decisions about the risks I take. They have no right to continue to control us and let football rule the f…..g world.”

Underneath a picture that showed football fans hugging and not maintaining social distancing, she wrote: "This is actually making me ill!!!!"

Denise’s dad Vin had a nasty fall in March and has spent 10 weeks in hospital. She broke down during an episode of Loose Women and revealed that he had been '"really poorly".

Yesterday, she also posted a sweet homage to her father. The video showed him dancing in drag and her message read: "Happy Fathers Day to the legend that is our dad, Vin Welch. This wonderful tribute to Dolly Parton is how dad dealt with the first lockdown."

She continued, "Sadly after a year of it his health started to deteriorate. But he is a fighter and we are so touched as a family with the support my posts about him have received.

" Thinking of all those today who have dads that are poorly and those who have lost theirs.”

Having seen the work of the NHS up close, Denise has also criticised the lack of funding that she says has been a problem long before the pandemic.

She also condemned the huge amount of money that was spent building the emergency Nightingale hospitals.

“As we wake up to more scaremongering this morning re the possibility of more lockdowns this winter to ‘save the NHS’ I’d like to make a point,” she told her Instagram followers.

“Every single winter since the dinosaurs, the NHS has been overwhelmed and very few people have cared. In 2018, 64,000 people died in January due to the flu vaccine not working that winter!!!! 64,000. Do you remember that being a daily death count?? Being on the news every night??? Suggested mask wearing or lockdowns??? Me neither!!!

"If the NHS couldn’t cope in winter most years then how the hell is it our responsibility to save it now!! It’s not!!"

She added, "They’re now using our Covid fear to do the job they should have done YEARS ago!! And if they’re so worried, reopen and staff the Nightingales they demolished!!!”
