Denise Van Outen 'fell off the wagon' and is back on the booze after a teetotal year

Denise Van Outen has started drinking again - after a teetotal year.

The 46 year old - who's currently starring on Celebrity Gogglebox with beau Eddie Boxshall - revealed that she "massively fell off the wagon" amid lockdown.

Denise had started drinking more following a painful foot injury which left her "miserable."

But she ditched the booze from her life all together after she realised it was doing her mood no favours.

Now, chatting to MailOnline, she's told that she had "a three week period in lockdown where everything went out the window."

"I spent a year sober," Denise said, "I didn't have a drink for a year - not because I had a problem with drinking, so it wasn't an issue, but I stopped drinking for a year."

Denise added that she'd upped her exercise and was focusing on belting out the bangers for her secretive role in The Masked Singer.

She continued: "But then I massively fell off the wagon and drank and drank and ate all the things I shouldn't."

After three weeks, though, Denise made a change and cut back on the junk again.

Explaining to Closer how she had kicked booze to begin with, she told: "It just got to the point where I thought, 'I don't want to feel like this, I want to go into my late forties feeling fit, healthy and amazing', so I just started to make a lot of changes."

A lockdown silver lining for Denise has been that it's demonstrated to her just how strong her relationship is with Eddie, who she's been dating since 2014.

The pair have already cemented themselves as Gogglebox fan favourites with their hilarious antics each week, and Denise reckons he's "The One."

She went on to say that the "test" of lockdown has confirmed to her that she and Eddie are perfect together.
