Denise Van Outen could return to Dancing On Ice 2022 after injury forced her to quit

Denise Van Outen was forced to quit Dancing On Ice early after suffering an injury, but she may be back next year.

Her professional skating partner Matt Evers said he would "love" to give the ice-skating competition another go in 2021.

The TV presenter, 46, was forced to quit the show after injuring her shoulder just hours before taking to the ice for the first time.

She was able to get through her first routine but after a doctor's appointment following the episode, she was told she couldn't continue.

Matt told The Sun : "There's been a lot of comment online for 'Denise and Matt 2022', they have never really done that before."

"At this stage we are just looking at next week, but there is a lot of support for Denise to do the show again next year. I would love that.

"That's because I get along with Denise so well, we just laughed so much."

Denise has now been replaced by Olympian Amy Tinkler.

Injured contestants who have been forced to leave reality TV shows have returned the following year in the past.

On Dancing On Ice in 2008 Michael Underwood broke his leg in rehearsals and came back the following year when he'd made a recovery.

And last year Jamie Laing returned to Strictly Come Dancing after he had to pull out of the 2019 show after he injured his foot.

Denise announced that she had to drop out of DOI on Instagram, writing: "GUTTED! If you've been watching @dancingonice you will be aware that just over a week ago I had a nasty fall and injured my shoulder. I managed to skate my first dance with @themattevers on the live show through a gritted smile because the pain was unbearable.

Amy Tinkler will be making her debut on Dancing On Ice on Sunday (PA)

"I've tried as hard as I can to carry on because I love the show and the amazing team in front and behind the cameras.

"Initially we thought with rest I could make a return to the ice, but a recent MRI scan has shown that I have 3 bone fractures as well as a partial dislocation. OUCH! No wonder I've been in agony.

"I won’t be able to do any lifts, tricks or solo skating on the show due to my injury. I’m going to bail out gracefully with my DOI bling sling."

*Dancing On Ice continues on Sunday at 6pm on ITV
