Melbourne vice-captain Jack Viney has been charged with serious misconduct and sent directly to the AFL tribunal for pinning Gold Coast defender Sam Collins to the ground and pressing his elbow down into his neck.
In the fourth quarter of the Demons' thumping win over the Suns, Viney caught Collins in a fierce tackle, bringing him to the ground.
The pair then started wrestling, with Viney, who was already on top of the Suns defender, pressing down on Collins' neck with his left elbow for several seconds before he broke free.
Match review officer Michael Christian referred Viney directly to the AFL tribunal, meaning the midfielder cannot accept an early plea.
Viney and his teammates flew to Perth on Monday, where they will quarantine for a week before facing West Coast on August 9.
The 27-year-old inside midfielder has played just 11 of 19 games this year amid injury issues, averaging 21 disposals.
Elsewhere, Port Adelaide's Willem Drew received a $2000 fine for rough conduct (dangerous tackle) on GWS' Lachie Whitfield.
Giants youngster Xavier O'Halloran was also handed a $2000 fine for a dangerous tackle, on Port Adelaide's Xavier Duursma.
