The anime series "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" will return to TV screens in Japan for a second season that will be aired by the end of this year.
Titled "Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yukaku-hen," the second installment of the popular series will pit the protagonist, Tanjiro Kamado, and his band of demon-slaying brethren in a fight against demons in a red-light district.
The new television series will be a sequel to the 2020 film "Demon Slayer: Mugen Train," which became the highest-grossing anime in Japanese box office history.
The announcement was made during a program on the streaming service Abema TV on the evening of Sunday.
Fans will have to wait to learn the specific TV broadcaster and time slot information, which will be announced at a later date.
The Demon Slayer anime is based on a manga series of the same name, written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotoge. Set in the Taisho era (1912-1926), the story depicts Tanjiro's quest to save his younger sister, who was turned into a demon, by making her human again.
The new anime is the second in the Demon Slayer franchise, following the first season's "Kamado Tanjiro Risshi-hen," which was aired from April to September 2019.
Meanwhile, Shueisha Inc. announced Monday that print and electronic sales of the 23-volume manga series surpassed 150 million copies.
