Demolition signs have been put up at Radford Victorian school building

Signs advertising a demolition company have appeared on the side of a Victorian school building in part of Nottingham.

Last known as Radford Community Centre, it was put up for sale by Nottingham City Council in 2018, after being deemed surplus to requirements.

Despite the signs now on the side of the historic building saying demolition, a spokesman for the council confirmed work was going on internally to remove asbestos.

The imposing red brick building on the corner of Lenton Boulevard and Ilkeston Road in Radford used to be home to some council staff and three community groups.

The staff moved to another council site several years ago and the community groups continued to use the centre free of charge.

The organisations were offered the chance to club together and buy the property, but talks between the groups broke down.

It has laid empty since then after costs were deemed too great for community organisations to take on.

A report from 2018 revealed the empty building has been included in security patrols as it may attract anti-social behaviour.
