Demolition plans welcomed for 'rough' Chilwell pub that residents 'tried to avoid'

Demolition plans have been welcomed for a pub that residents say they 'tried to avoid' when it was open.

The Inham Nook pub and hotel on Inham Road in Chilwell was previously closed and has now been the subject of an application of an application to demolish the pub and its associated buildings.

People who live near to the closed down pub said that it was known for being "rough" and that they would like it to be replaced with a green space.

Tommy Tam, 31, a programmer who lives nearby, said: "It’s got quite a reputation for being a rough pub. Most of my friends try to avoid it.

"It's hard to say how long it has been closed for - I think it's been a while. I had never been there.

“It doesn’t bother me [what’s put there] - I live so close to Beeston I’ve got everything I need there.”

A Chilwell resident, who wanted to be kept anonymous, said: “I heard it was rough - neighbours told me to avoid the pub at all costs.

“That’s probably why it’s closed.

“I would like to see something nice or something natural replace it - maybe a park."

Charlotte Cassidy, 18, who is a college student from the local area, said: “Personally I never really liked the pub.

“I don’t if it was the people there but it was always really loud, it kept opening and closing for a while.

“It closed for a couple of months [throughout lockdown] and had new ownership when we came out of lockdown for a bit, then it closed again.

“It was popular within the estate, I know a lot of people from there went. I have been in when I was younger and it wasn’t really a good environment for a kid.

“I think something for younger kids would be nice - maybe a park. Or something for the wildlife - something that’s more beneficial for the environment.”

The application, made by Mr P Goodrick, is currently pending consideration by Broxtowe Borough Council.
