Demolition order for dodgy lock-ups in South Ayrshire

An emergency demolition has been ordered for unsafe lock-ups in Troon after residents were dumping rubbish in them.

South Ayrshire Council aims to knock down 12 lock-ups in Central Avenue within days.

The rundown garages have been branded a health and safety risk for some time and were fenced off to keep residents out.

But it has emerged some people have been discarding junk in the vicinity - despite the barriers. They have pushed the fences away to get past.

Troon councillor Philip Saxton, responsible for housing and well-being, said: “The lock-ups will be demolished as soon as possible. We are planning an emergency demolition as soon as we get a building warrant.
“It is a matter of safety.

“The lock-ups are fenced off but people are going behind the fence and dumping stuff.”

“We are taking immediate action. We have to get them down as soon as possible.”

It is hoped the site could  be razed within the next two weeks.

The lock-ups sit behind houses in the Muirhead area of Troon.

They are in poor condition - and some have doors missing.

The council rents out-lockups throughout dozens of South Ayrshire streets in Troon, Ayr, Girvan, Prestwick and Maybole.

They are available for tenants to keep vehicles in.
