Demolition company tore down the wrong house, said it was a mistake

Bobby Lindamood, a local councilman who owns a demolition company, wants to "make things right" after the wrong house was demolished in Dallas.

Saying it was a mistake, Lindamood said it was the first time this happened in the history of his company, JR's Demolition.

"We've communicated with the property owner multiple times, and we're waiting to see what the owner wants to do," Lindamood said.

When Lindamood's crew got to the house on Richard Avenue, "it was in shambles" and the home was stripped of its plumbing and there were no electrical or gas connections.

"The house was completely stripped; there was no foundation, no concrete underneath. Someone cut trees down and laid them in front of the house. That's why we didn't see the (address) numbers on the curb. It was pouring down rain and everything was covered up," Lindamood told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

He added that there were no chairs on the front porch.

Lindamood described the Richard Avenue area as having homes with roofs off, and some were being renovated.

Lindamood wrote in an email to the Star-Telegram that workers said vagrants were living on the property.

"In short, the property was similar in appearance and condition to many of the properties that JR's demolished on Richard (Avenue)," Lindamood said. Dallas County property records indicate the home is valued at $63,020.

According to WFAA, the Star-Telegram's media partner, Jeremy Winneger bought the home in 2019 from a friend who was dying.

"We're honorable, and we're going to do all we can to make things right," Lindamood said.
