New campaign finance filings for Ohio state legislative races show Democrats leading Republicans in fundraising. Between July 1, 2021, and December 31, 2021, Democratic candidates outraised Republican candidates by 19 percent.
Heading into the primary elections, five Democratic candidates raised $98,496 compared to $81,128 raised by four Republicans.
In the Democratic party, the top fundraisers in the most recent reporting period were:
- Gavi Begtrup (House of Representatives, District 26) – $56,621
- Catherine Ingram (State Senate, District 9) – $18,950
- Cecil Thomas (House of Representatives, District 31) – $17,955
- Danielle Dronet (House of Representatives, District 9) – $4,970
In the Republican party, the top fundraisers in the most recent reporting period were:
- Shane Wilkin (State Senate, District 17) – $67,060
- Nick Davis (House of Representatives, District 85) – $11,068
- Al Landis (State Senate, District 31) – $3,000
The candidates who raised the most money were Shane Wilkin (R) in Senate District 17 ($67,060), Gavi Begtrup (D) in House District 26 ($56,621), and Catherine Ingram (D) in Senate District 9 ($18,950).
State legislative primary elections are held on May 3, 2022. In some cases, party nominees may have been chosen earlier.
Republicans have a 25-8 majority in the Ohio State Senate and a 64-34 majority in the Ohio State House.
