Jurin Laksanavisit, the Democrat Party leader, has called a meeting of party executive committee members on Monday to receive work assignments, party spokesman Rames Ratanachaweng said on Sunday.

Mr Rames said at the 1pm meeting Mr Jurin will give work assignments to deputy party leaders, the party secretary-general and his deputies.

A number of committees for various party affairs will also be set up to enable a team of party "avengers" to work at full steam, he added.

On Tuesday, another 1pm meeting will provide an orientation for MPs. Democrat members of the lower house, particularly the newly-elected, will be given guidelines for parliamentary work, whether in govermnent or in opposition.

Mr Rames said the party has not yet set a date for a meeting to decide whether or not to join a government.

No matter what the decision will be, the people can rest assured that the Democrat Party under the leadership of Mr Jurin will adhere primarily to the interests of the people and the country, he added.

Nipit Intarasombat, a deputy party leader responsible for the South, said the party has not yet decided whether to join the new government. Whatever the decision is, all 52 of the party's MPs must proceed in the same direction, he added.
