Demi Moore calls man's drowning in her pool an 'unthinkable tragedy'

July 20--Actress Demi Moore says the death of a 21-year-old man, who drowned in the pool at her Beverly Crest home, was an "unthinkable tragedy."

The "Ghost" star said in a statement that she was "in absolute shock" over Edenilson Steven Valle's death. Moore was out of the country traveling to meet her daughters for a birthday party when she "got the devastating news," she said.

Valle was found floating in the deep end of the pool in Moore's home on Oak Pass Road about 5:20 a.m. Sunday, authorities said.

He was removed from the water and paramedics performed life-saving procedures. Minutes later, he was pronounced dead.

Friends and family told authorities that Valle, a Los Angeles resident, did not know how to swim. He had been missing 10 to 15 minutes before he was discovered.

Los Angeles police Sgt. A. Bone said Valle was on Moore's staff.

Moore's publicist did not respond to a request for comment about Valle's employment with the actress.

"The loss of a child is an unthinkable tragedy and my heart goes out to this young man's family and friends. I ask that you please respect the privacy of all concerned during this sensitive time," Moore said in the statement.

Times staff writer Matt Stevens contributed to this report.
