Demi Lovato update: What happened before and after overdose

LOS ANGELES _ As Demi Lovato continues to recover from what sources said was a Tuesday overdose, the singer's camp remained quiet in an attempt to protect her privacy. However, that wasn't keeping outside sources from talking about what went down before and after the OD.

The L.A. hospital room housing Lovato is essentially "on lockdown," a source told Us Weekly. There were two security guards outside Lovato's door with strict instructions not to allow anyone inside who wasn't approved by Lovato's mom, Dianna De La Garza, the magazine reported.

"The entire floor is basically on lockdown with the rooms next to hers remaining vacant," the source told the outlet.

Lovato, 25, overdosed before noon Tuesday on an unidentified drug and was treated with Narcan by paramedics, sources told the Los Angeles Times. Narcan, or naloxone, is used to reverse narcotics overdoses.

"Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support," a Lovato rep told The Times late Tuesday. "Some of the information being reported is incorrect and they respectfully ask for privacy and not speculation as her health and recovery is the most important thing right now."

TMZ originally reported that heroin was involved, then later retracted that story.

The singer was uncooperative with authorities before going unconscious Tuesday and failed to tell paramedics what she'd taken, the Blast reported. Others at the house with her wouldn't say either, the website said.

Lovato had been celebrating one of her backup dancers' birthdays the night before at Saddle Ranch on the Sunset Strip and might have been partying all night, TMZ reported. When police and paramedics answered a 911 call before noon Tuesday, however, only members of her team were present at her Hollywood Hills home.

Radar Online reported that she had been drinking vodka-sodas Monday night and was having fun at the club, but seemed under control while others partied around her. There was a party afterward at Lovato's home, Radar said, with most guests leaving by 4 a.m.

Wilmer Valderrama, Lovato's longtime boyfriend and still reportedly a close friend since their 2016 breakup, was "shocked" by the news, a source told People on Wednesday. "He knew she was going through a tough time but he wasn't prepared for this," the source said.

"She had a sober coach who she cut out of her life a few months ago. She's been in a downward spiral ever since and has not been doing well," a source told E! News.

According to E!, Lovato was at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Lovato _ who went through 90 days of rehab in late 2010 and early 2011 for treatment of cutting, an eating disorder, bipolar disorder and substance abuse _ addressed her broken sobriety in a recent single called "Sober."

"Momma, I'm so sorry / I'm not sober anymore," Lovato sings on the song's chorus. "And Daddy, please forgive me for the drinks spilled on the floor / To the ones who never left me / We've been down this road before / I'm so sorry, I'm not sober anymore."

The "Sorry Not Sorry" singer's planned Thursday night gig in Atlantic City, N.J., has been canceled "in light of [the] news," presenter Live Nation said Wednesday. She's scheduled to go on tour in Central and South America in September and November.
