Demi Lovato admitted that she has sometimes struggled with 'survivor's guilt' after she almost died from an overdose in 2018.
The 28-year-old former Disney star, who is now on the path to recovery, opened up about how she feels when she hears of the death of other celebrities.
Speaking to TMZ, the songstress admitted that she has faced a challenging few years but she remained grateful for every day she can enjoy.
Her interview came days after rapped DMX was admitted into intensive care after he went into cardiac arrest following a suspected 'overdose'.
Appearing on TMZ live, Demi confirmed that news of DMX's hospitalisation did scare her as she was reminded that it could have been her in that position.
When asked if she felt scared following news of DMX she said: "Yeah, of course.
"Anytime that I see somebody O.D or even pass away that are in the public eye, I immediately think 'That could have been you had you not been putting all this work into the last couple of years of your life'.
She added: "I feel like there are times when I've even talked about survivors' guilt because you do ask yourself like 'why am I still here? and why are others not?' It's a challenging thing to get over but ultimately I had to realise that every day is a day that someone else doesn't get.
During her interview, Demi also spoke of her gratefulness for having survived the terrifying 2018 ordeal.
The songstress continued: "Every day that I'm here on this earth is a day that I need to be counting my blessings for and just be appreciative and grateful for.
"It makes me want to live the best life I can possibly live, knowing that others didn't get the same chance as I did."
Demi has been very open with her recovery after she was hospitalised in July 2018 after suffering an overdose on heroin that was laced with fentanyl.
She has also revealed that she suffered three strokes and a heart attack following the near-fatal overdose and has also been left with brain damage.
Demi has since created a documentary called Dancing with the Devil in which she wants to tell the real story about what happened.
