Demi Lovato 'feels renewed' after ‘absolutely magical’ baptism in River Jordan

Demi Lovato has described her baptism in Israel’s River Jordan as “absolutely magical.”

The singer, 27, told her Instagram followers that she travelled to Israel to explore her Christian and Jewish heritage and said that the trip has helped “to fill the God-sized hole in [her] heart.”

She shared a series of photos of herself exploring landmarks, including a selfie which showed the Western Wall, a site of major religious significance in the Jewish faith, in the background.

Another image showed Lovato embracing a priest during the baptism ceremony in the River Jordan, where Jesus is said to have been baptised by John the Baptist.

“I am an American singer,” she wrote on Instagram. “I was raised Christian and have Jewish ancestors.

"When I was offered an amazing opportunity to visit the places I’d read about in the Bible growing up, I said yes.

“There is something absolutely magical about Israel. I’ve never felt such a sense of spirituality or connection to God… something I’ve been missing for a few years now.

“Spirituality is so important to me… to be baptised in the Jordan river - the same place Jesus was baptised - I’ve never felt more renewed in my life.”

She added that the trip has been “important for [her] well-being, [her] heart, and [her] soul” and said that she was “grateful for the memories made.”

The star also visited Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Centre, in Jerusalem, which she described as “a reminder that we can never forget,” and made a trip to the Shalva National Centre, a non-profit organisation for children with special needs and their families.
