Demi Jones needs artificial hormones for rest of her life after thyroid cancer battle

Demi Jones revealed she will have to take hormone tablets for the rest of her life after being diagnosed with thyroid cancer.

The Love Island - who rose to fame in the 2020 series - recently opened up to fans about having to undergo surgery to remove the golf-ball-sized lump from her neck.

She still has to undergo further treatment to destroy any remaining cancer cells.

And now, the star revealed she will have to take hormones forever.

"I need to go for my second operation, which is this week," she said. "This is where I'll have my full thyroidectomy to get rid of my thyroid. Then I'll have my iodine treatment, which basically just zaps away any remaining bits of my thyroid or cancer.

"It's all a bit scientific for me, so I'm not 100% sure, and I do have a real journey ahead of me. But it's all treatable so I should be absolutely fine."

She continued to new! magazine: "I've got to take some everyday hormone tablets too, just to make sure all my hormones are level, as my thyroid won't be there anymore."

The 22-year-old recently revealed that she wished she told her family about her diagnosis before telling all her fans and followers on Instagram.

Demi confessed her regret in an interview with Zeze Millz: "When I first found out it could be cancerous, I was in shock and I was crying because I went on social media, and I shouldn’t have done that because I hadn’t even told my family yet.

"I don’t even know why, I can’t even tell you because my head was scrambled and I was like 'Oh my God, guys!'"

Before getting her diagnosis, the influencer had six medical appointments cancelled.

She was unable to see a specialist due to the coronavirus pandemic but eventually saw a medical professional, who told her she had nothing to worry about.

However, the star pushed for further tests as she witnessed what her stepfather went through with his cancer battle.
