Rarely does a sixth-round pick play a role in a team competing at the highest level of the NFL. If they make a roster, late picks are usually developmental guys playing some special teams.
Demetric Felton could have a chance to break that mold. The UCLA star had an interesting college career as a wide receiver, primarily, for his first two-plus seasons before finishing off as a running back. In his four seasons, Felton had 233 carries and 99 receptions as a Bruin including seven rushing and eight receiving touchdowns.
That versatility is one of the big reasons he was drafted by the Cleveland Browns. While Felton may have excelled at any one area in college, his ability to do a little bit of everything on offense is intriguing.
Already in Browns training camp, Felton’s versatility has been on display. On the first day, the sixth-round pick was part of the running backs group as well as taking part in some kick returning duties. On day two, Felton joined the wide receivers:

With his positional flexibility, Cleveland could decide to keep Felton as both a running back and wide receiver, giving themselves an extra roster spot for another position. At a minimum, his diverse skill set will help him fight for his spot on the team.
After hitting on a sixth-round pick in 2020 in Donovan Peoples-Jones, the Browns hope to have done so once again in 2021. This time, versatility is the name of Felton’s game.
