Demba Ba applauded for standing up to alleged racism during PSG and Istanbul Basaksehir Champions League tie

Demba Ba has been applauded for standing up to alleged racism during the Champions League tie between Paris St Germain and Istanbul Basaksehir.

Players from both sides refused to play on after an alleged racial slur was heard.

The remark was said to be used to refer to Pierre Webo, Basaksehir's assistant manager, who had been sent to the stands.

Webo could be heard asking why such a term had been used to describe him.

He went to the stands, but former Toon striker Ba, on the bench for Istanbul Basaksehir, led the charge to the referee and demanded to know why the slur was used.

After several minutes of heated discussion - during which Kevin Mbpappe and Neymar could be seen to be in agreement with the Istanbul Basaksehir team stance, the players decided to walk off the pitch in protest.

Social media was awash with people applauding Ba for standing up for his coach and calling out the slur as he demanded to know why it was used.
