Demba Ba has revealed that he is "not really" sorry for ruining Steven Gerrard's dream of a Premier League title after pouncing on his infamous slip to score for Chelsea.
Chelsea handed Liverpool their first league defeat of 2014 and ended a 16-match unbeaten run when they triumphed 2-0 at Anfield in April 2014.
Ba scored Chelsea's opener having latched onto a loose ball following a mistake by Gerrard that gave the Senegalese forward a clear run at goal that he did not waste, as the Daily Star reports.
The loss to Chelsea was followed by a 3-3 draw away to Crystal Palace as the Reds surrendered a three-point lead to hand the title to Manchester City.
Speaking to The Athletic, Ba reflected on his goal, saying that: “I only realised how big a deal that was a couple of years later, when people still talked about it.
"They still talk about it! It was traumatic for them. But we didn’t enjoy the fact that we killed their dream, we simply enjoyed winning.”
However, when asked whether he felt in any way sorry for inflicting such pain on Gerrard and the Liverpool fans, Ba admitted that it is all part of football.
“No, not really. Because that’s the game," explained the former Newcastle United frontman.
"You make errors and others take advantage. What Steven Gerrard has done for the world of football is tremendous. But this is life, unfortunately. Not all stories can end in fairytales.”
The 2013/14 season was the closest Gerrard came to winning an elusive league title, the only trophy from his Liverpool career that he failed to win.
Gerrard's talismanic displays for Brendan Rodgers' side did earn him a place in the PFA Team of the Year for an eighth and final time but was no substitute for a maiden league title.
Ba's goal was his 14th and final striker for Chelsea, as he departed for Besiktas in the summer after 18 months in west London.
The former West Ham striker hung up his boots last month at the age of 36 following a 16-year professional career that also included spells in Belgium, Germany, China and Switzerland.
