The Los Angeles Rams are looking for multiple pass catchers to step up in the offense and Demarcus Robinson is trying his best to earn a role thus far. Robinson has been one of the most popular names early in training camp and Sean McVay has certainly taken notice of his effort in practice.
“You mentioned it, it’s not too big for him,” McVay said. “There’s been a lot of opportunities where he’s kind of been the primary on some of these things and he’s just got a good look in his eye. I mean, he’s got a good swagger. You can just see the way that he even just moves around the field, he’s got confidence. You like those guys that want the ball. You can feel, he’s got that nice kind of edge where he is not afraid to go or do anything other than go attack an opportunity to make a play. If it doesn’t go his way, he’s like, ‘I can’t wait for that next opp.’ That’s the mindset you want to have on this team as a whole and I’ve really liked what I’ve seen from Demarcus.”
Since training camp began last week, Robinson has made big play after big play in the passing game. The veteran wideout has rotated with the first and second-team units in practice as he’s been a go-to deep target for every quarterback on the Rams’ roster.
Aside from Cooper Kupp and Van Jefferson, the other wide receivers on the Rams are vying for roles in the offense during training camp and the preseason. Robinson is competing with the likes of rookie Puka Nacua, Tutu Atwell, Ben Skowronek, and Tyler Johnson for the No. 3 spot on the depth chart.
Throughout his career, Robinson has never been a full-time starter out wide and he likely won’t see a large role on the Rams unless an injury occurs. That being said, the 28-year-old pass catcher has done all of the right things to garner the attention of McVay so far.
