DeMarcus Lawrence has some advice for reporters when asking about Ezekiel Elliott’s holdout

DeMarcus Lawrence just landed a massive deal from the Cowboys in the offseason. There were rumors he might holdout if he was franchise tagged, but it never got that far and now he has the highest average annual value when it comes to defensive end contracts according to Spotrac. Lawrence played the game perfectly and landed a new deal. Well, there’s another Cowboy who actually is holding out — and isn’t franchise tagged or even a pending free agent — and he may be the most important player on the Cowboys offense. Ezekiel Elliott has yet to report to camp in Oxnard, California. He wants a new deal and he wants it now. Since Lawrence did get what he wanted, maybe he had some advice for his teammate . . . or maybe not.

This is the correct answer. No one likes people who pocket watch. Other players shouldn’t be involved in their teammates business when it comes to actual business. Baker Mayfield was reportedly spoken to by Browns veterans when he spoke about Duke Johnson’s situation a few months ago. It’s simply not a good look.

We constantly hear the NFL is a business, but that’s how players should handle it especially when it comes to their teammates. No good can come out of saying that a player should be reporting to camp when they are holding out. It can only breed resentment. Criticizing another players trade request or holdout can create a really awkward situation once everyone is back in the locker room.
