DeMarcus Cousins’ MRI on ankle comes back clean, will sit against Spurs and Wolves

Warriors center DeMarcus Cousins went out late with an ankle injury against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday night. While the team felt that the injury wouldn’t be anything serious, he underwent an MRI on Monday morning for precautionary reasons, and the results came back clean, according to Anthony Slater.

Even with the clean MRI, the Warriors are going to keep him out of Monday night’s matchup with the San Antonio Spurs and, likely, their matchup with the Minnesota Timberwolves, too.

Cousins is averaging 15 points and eight rebounds in the 21 games that he’s suited up this season. He’s averaging 17.5 and nine rebounds over his last 10, however, and is starting to look more like his old self. He dropped 27-8-7 in a win over the Rockets and had 25-8-6 in a win over the 76ers, too.

To fill some of the minutes left behind by Cousins, the Warriors have pushed up Andrew Bogut’s start date, and he’ll see his first minutes since re-joining the team on Monday night against San Antonio.

Kerr hasn’t said what kind of minutes that Bogut will see in his first few games, but he’s definitely going to see the floor in some capacity.

If Cousins only misses the two games, he’ll make his return at home against the Indiana Pacers.
