The summer signing went down and received treatment from Everton’s medical team but it was quickly apparent he could not continue.

Alex Iwobi was brought on to replace Gray on 17 minutes.

Gray joins Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Yerry Mina, Andre Gomes and Tom Davies as players carrying injuries at present.

Gray’s withdrawal comes as a major blow to Rafa Benitez who had been hoping to use his pace on the counter attack against City today

The former Leicester man had found himself in a couple of promising positions before the injury struck.

Everton’s selection problems have worsened after Richarlison picked up a fifth booking of the season.

The Brazilian was cautioned for a late challenge on Manchester City’s Kyle Walker at the Etihad Stadium today

Richarlison’s yellow card means he will now be hit with a one match ban and so miss next weekend’s trip to Brentford.
