DeMar DeRozan questions father time entering his 14th season

DeMar DeRozan had a career-year in his first season with the Chicago Bulls in 2021-22.

DeRozan averaged 27.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game while shooting 50% from the floor, helping lead the Bulls to their first playoff appearance since 2016-17 and an All-NBA Second Team appearance for himself.

At media day on Monday, DeRozan was asked about the undefeated father time and how he plans to adjust his game as he declines, which he questioned.

“Why? Who comes up with that theory?” DeRozan asked. “All I can do is work my butt off and continue to get better every single moment. I don’t look at it like ‘oh my god, I’m going into this year maybe I can’t do this’ because I’m already putting a limitation on myself subconsciously that I don’t want to carry over into the next season.”

DeRozan referenced Chris Paul and LeBron James as older guys in the league that he’s talked to on the subject who are still producing at a high level despite their age and miles on their body.

“I have a lot of conversations with a lot of guys that’s older than me that’s in the league like Chris Paul. Being the motivation factor of this whole age thing that people put on people…I love getting older just to show people you can still get better the older that you get.”

Now, will DeRozan replicate last season’s All-NBA Second Team campaign this year? Likely not, but until the clock strikes, don’t expect DeRozan to slow down very much.
