BHOPAL: Commuters at Bhopal railway station will get better toilet facilities. Work on the construction of a deluxe toilet on platform number 6 is set to begin soon. Besides, Bhopal railway division is also planning to construct a new parking lot near platform number 6.
Senior DCM (Bhopal division) Vijay Prakash said that the deluxe toilet will be operational in the next 6 months. “Bhopal division has awarded new contracts worth Rs6.10 crore for deluxe toilets at Bhopal and Itarsi railway stations,” he said.
Prakash said that Bhopal division has finalised two new tenders of deluxe pay & use toilets on build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis at Bhopal and Itarsi stations. “The tender value for Bhopal & Itarsi stations will be Rs3.42 crore and Rs2.68 crore respectively. These deluxe toilets would be highly convenient for railway passengers and the platform will also get a facelift,” he said.
Prakash said that the new facility will be spread on 1,500sqft area. “Passengers will get air-conditioned toilets. Besides, there will be resting facilities,” he said.
Prakash said that a new parking lot is also in the pipeline near platform number 6. “At platform number 1, there is a good parking facility. We are planning to have another parking lot at platform number 6 and will issue the tenders soon,” he said.
Notably, Bhopal railway division has also planned to reduce pressure on Bhopal station and a new station will come up at Nishatpura and will serve as an additional boarding/deboarding point for the state capital.
The project includes development of an island platform on which trains can enter from either side. A building with passenger amenities such as ticket booking counters, washrooms and waiting rooms will also come up.
