Delta to offer free meals on some routes

ATLANTA _ Free meals in coach class are coming back to Delta _ on some routes, anyway.

After a test of free meals late last year, Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines is rolling out complimentary meals in the main cabin on some transcontinental flights. During last year's test, Delta said it "saw a significant increase" in customer satisfaction scores.

On March 1, Delta will offer free meals to economy class passengers on flights between New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and Los Angeles International, and between JFK and San Francisco International.

On April 24, Delta plans to expand the free meals to routes between Boston and SFO, LAX and Seattle; between JFK and Portland International, San Diego and Seattle; between Seattle and Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Raleigh-Durham; and between Washington Reagan National and LAX.

There will be a choice of meals depending on the time of the flight, with options like a honey maple breakfast sandwich, breakfast medley or fruit and cheese plate for breakfast. Lunch options include a mesquite smoked turkey combo, Mediterranean whole grain veggie wrap or fruit and cheese plate. Overnight flights will have breakfast bars.

Delta also recently upgraded its snacks with options like honey-roasted peanuts and yogurt bars.
